14th March 2008

Manchester-based charity The Rathbone Trust has appointed Jim Bethell, Managing Director of Manchester Airport Developments (MADL) to its Board of Trustees.

The Rathbone Trust provides programmes of education and work related training to young people aged 14 - 25.  The charity seeks to work with young people facing the greatest challenges in their lives, and supports the Government Entry to Employment (e2e) initiative, helps young people into apprenticeship programmes, and retrains adults who have been long term unemployed so they can get back to work.

Jim said of the Trust: “The Rathbone Trust helps young people achieve their potential in sometimes challenging circumstances. This is incredibly important work and I am delighted to be appointed to the Board of Trustees.”

The Rathbone Trust also provides programmes to support young people in inner cities who have fallen out of mainstream education, special programmes for young people under 16 who have been excluded from school or are in danger of being excluded, and a network of independent living centres for people with special needs, helping them gain the skills and confidence needed to live independently in the community.

The charity operates from 69 centres in the UK and in 2006/07 reached over 13,000 young people, helping them to realise their full potential. For further information visit www.rathboneuk.org
