Airport Partners WOW Local School
21st April 2008

Peel Hall Primary School in Wythenshawe became the latest participant in the Airport Community Network’s World of Work (WOW) Programme as over 30 staff from airport businesses transformed the school into an airport for the day.

The WOW programme offers a wonderful opportunity for local children to take their own flight through the vast range of career options available at the airport by chatting to staff about their jobs and taking part in lots of fun activities.

John Bedson of Manchester Airport Developments (MADL) explains the attraction. “The WOW events really are fantastic! We have thoroughly enjoyed bringing the construction industry to life with several of our contractors and we are sure that this type of involvement at a young age will go a long way in encouraging our workforce of the future!”

The WOW programme is a firm fixture in the Network calendar with over 190 staff and 1400 children having taken part so far. Phil Shilson of Alpha Retail explains. “The Airport Community Network is a fantastic partnership between airport organisations. The WOW programme is just one of a number of activities that allow businesses to work together to increase our positive impact and make a difference in our local community.”

Headteacher Malcolm Hallam adds. “The WOW event gave our children such an inspirational and educational morning. The commitment and enthusiasm shown by everyone from the airport was marvellous and provided a day that will be treasured by us all for a long time to come.”

Partners in the event included Monarch Airlines, Enterprise rent-a-car, SSP, Alpha Retail, BIA, First Transpennine, Manchester Airport Developments, Manchester Airport Security, Fire Service and Tour Centre and R&M Developments Ltd.
